This is one for you Aviation enthusiasts.

The Pipistrel Velis Electro is the world’s first Certified Electric Aircraft, certified by the EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency). It is fully approved for pilot training in over 30 countries.

Flights are now available in the UK:
Saxon Air: book here  |  Neboair: book here

This aircraft signals the beginning of a huge tidal wave of change in how people fly domestically in this decade.

When a Boeing 737 size aircraft goes all electric, total journey time will reduce significantly. Boarding and disembarking will be faster because less maintenance and “refuelling” time is required compared to a conventional jet fuelled aircraft. Swap the battery packs… and go.

As maintenance costs come down for airlines, this in turn will either reduce the cost of flights, or make new smaller airports viable where conventional airports simply wouldn’t make economic sense.

Here are some of the Pipistrel’s key features:

Capacity: 2 seats

Max Range: 50 minutes

Max Load: 378 lb (172 kg)

Noise: 60dB (as loud as a normal conversation between two people)
